10 Easy Ways to Prevent Aging

I bet a lot of us bloggers here are already on our early 20s. At this age, our skin is at it's healthiest and our collagen production is full. However, as much as I hate to break it to you, by the age of 25, our healthy cells will start to deteriorate and our collagen production will decrease. This is the start of aging process. Once you age, you can never reverse it unless you go under the knife. Age repair creams are useless. I repeat, useless.

My mom is a complete health freak and she's very conscious about her skin. She's already 49 ( turning 50 in a few days ) and she only has little fine lines. I grew up watching her do her beauty rituals and I must say, it doesn't take much money to keep yourself healthy and glowing. However, it takes a lot of discipline to do so.

Here are the stuff I've learned from her:

1.) Avoid the sun - The first step to any good skin care routine is keeping it out of harm’s way. Simply put, limit your skin’s exposure to the sun as much as possible. All the UVA and UVB rays fry up the skin surface and cause collagen break down causing you dry skin and wrinkles. It's almost impossible to stay away from the sun because we're not vampires but it's best to avoid it from 8am-4pm where the sun is at it's hottest peak.

For those who like to sun bathe, good luck!
2.) Sun block is a must have! - So you think that an Spf 15 can already protect you? think again. If you are confused by how Spf works, let's not get into complex explanations and just think of it as this way, the number of Spf is the number of times it can protect you. Spf 15 can only offer 15x protection to your skin. Spf 30 can only offer 30x protection from the sun. Since we live in a very hot humid weather, it is wiser to use Spf 50 for those who go to school or work. For those who are always outdoors, Spf 100 is your best choice. Apply sunblock every 4 hours.

If you need a sunblock that doesn't have a greasy feel, Neutrogena Helioplex Dry Touch sunblock can be your bet. It absorbs really well. You can find this at Watsons and other grocery stores.

3.) Moisturize - All skin types need to moisturize, even the oily ones. However, you have to understand that skin types have different needs. You need moisturizers that fit your skin type. For dry skin, choose moisturizers that are creamy. For oily skin, gel-based moisturizers will fit you best since it is easily absorbed by the skin and does not grease your face. For acne-prone skin, there are a lot of moisturizers in the market that are created for sensitive skin. I researched on drug store products that are commonly found here in our country so you can get access to them if you are on the hunt for moisturizers.
This gel base moisturizer is best for oily skin. You can usually find this at Watsons.
Olay is very much known for it's ultra moisturizing properties. This may be perfect for dry skin. you can find this at every grocery stores in the city.
for acne prone and sensitive skin, Aveeno is by far the most gentle moisturizer you can find in the market. In line with that, you can also find Neutrogena and St. Ives. They also work wonders!
4.) Exfoliate - Exfoliation helps promote cellular renewal by stimulating the fibroblasts.  Remember the things that produce collagen, elastin, and GAG’s (providers of ‘snap back’ and hydration). Scrub 1-2x a week. If you are using a product that already contains Alpha, Beta and Polyhydroxy Acids which are simply applied and left on the skin, you should limit your exfoliation to once a week since these substances already peel off dead surface skin cells. You don't want to thin out your skin. Never ever use body scrubs on your face because these products are really aggressive for the delicate facial skin. Make sure you wear sunblock if you're going out after exfoliating the skin since the new skin layers are fresh and fragile.

St. Ives is renowned for the best scrub amongst drug store products.
5.) Invest in a quality pair of sunnies - Believe it or not, it is an everyday essential. The skin around your eyes are the thinnest amongst any part of your body. It means that it is very fragile and prone to wrinkling especially if you are under the sun and you squint a lot. The sun breaks down your collagen resulting to loss of skin's elasticity especially around the corners of your eyes. If you think that a random pair of sun glasses can already get you through, think again. The cheap ones that you can easily buy around the corner do not have UVA and UVB shields to protect your eyes. You will know if your sunnies are of good quality if you don't squint under the sun while wearing your sunnies. If you still do, better invest in a good pair!

Remember to buy sunnies that can cover your whole eye area including the brows. If you don't know the right sun glasses for your face shape, click here to view my tips on this.
6.) Avoid makeup - I hate to break it you ladies but makeup does a lot of harm than good in your skin. The chemicals used in cosmetics, some of them are good and most have bad effects. Many people use makeup on daily basis. An alarming amount of cosmetics can actually be absorbed into the skin or breathed into the lungs. Cosmetics are manufactured using different chemicals and some of these chemicals are linked to health problems and most common problems include cancer or other allergic problems. Parabens are chemical preservatives that have been identified as estrogen and disruptive of normal hormone function. It is the exposure to external estrogen's that have been shown to increase the risk of breast cancer. Athletes have been known to cause a broad range of birth defects and lifelong reproductive impairments. Be careful with the things you put on your face, especially eye shadows and eyeliners. Not only will they wrinkle your skin but they may cause harm to your vision.

If you really need to conceal little flaws or balance out your skin tone, try tinted moisturizers. I have this, Myra E moisturizer and it provides a medium but smooth coverage. You can never go wrong with the price!
You can also opt for mineral foundations and powders. They provide good coverage and are a lot safer on the skin because of their organic ingredients.
7.) Load up on Vitamins - Antioxidants are known to prevent agents called free radicals from damaging cells in the body and the skin. Free radicals are a result of normal body processes, but they can also be created by exposure to various environmental factors such as smoking or ultraviolet (UV) radiation from the sun and can speed up the aging process.

mineral selenium helps protect the body from cancers, including skin cancer caused by sun exposure. It also preserves tissue elasticity and slows down the aging and hardening of tissues associated with oxidation. Dietary sources of the mineral include whole grain cereals, seafood, garlic, and eggs.

Experts consider vitamin E to be the most important antioxidant because it protects cell membranes and prevents damages to enzymes associated with them. Supplementation with vitamin E in 400 milligrams a day has been noted to reduce photodamage, wrinkles and improve skin texture. Natural sources of vitamin E include vegetable oils such as sunflower oil, grains, oats, nuts, and dairy products.

Vitamin C is the most common antioxidant found in the skin. It's also found in vegetables and citrus fruits. Like vitamin E, vitamin C is considered important in repairing free radicals and preventing them from becoming cancerous or accelerating the aging process.

8.) Eat right! - You can never look glowing on the outside if you are not healthy on the inside, makes sense? Fruits and Vegetables are clinically proven anti-oxidants that get rid of free radicals from the body. Not only do they provide vitamins that nourish the cells, they also combat diseases by strengthening the immune system. I know not everyone likes to eat vegetables which is why it takes a lot of discipline to be able to get into the habit of doing so. If you have noticed, vegetarians not only live longer, but they have very healthy complexion. You don't need to become vegetarian to achieve healthy skin as long as you follow the right amount of serving of fruits and vegetables.

As you can see, meat, fish and other alternatives should only be 12% in your diet while fatty and sugary foods should only be 7%. If you don't get into the habit of eating the right foods, not only will you age faster but you will also be at a terrible risk of Cancer and Diabetes.
9.) Exercise Regularly - We already know that exercise keeps our muscles toned and our skin firm. So with that being said, if you don't want to look all flabby, saggy and weak, you should know that exercise is not an option but a choice. Not only will it stimulate your metabolism to work well but it also aids to get rid of toxins and stress. This is not only beneficial to your skin but it is also important for your health. Always think long term. If you are not fond of exercising, why don't you play a sport that you like? If you enjoy what you are doing, you wouldn't notice the feeling of getting tired!

If you are enjoying what you are doing, it will be in your heart to keep going!
10.) Avoid the wrong crowd - This is what many people fail to take note of. All of the items above, 1-9 will all be useless if you don't have proper discipline. Tto be able to have discipline is to be able to get rid of negative influences around you. If you hangout with friends that smoke, drink and party, expect yourself to be at risk any time soon. Even if you don't smoke, second hand smoking not only contributes to Lung Cancer but it also throws toxins on your skin. Don't be surprised if you look more haggard than your friends. I am not saying that you leave your friends but it is important for you to consider your lifestyle. why don't you invite your friends instead so you can all get into the habit of living right? Be a support system!

Always remember, learn to say "No"

Okay. So those are only the things that you need to take note of. It may sound easy but hard to do. It takes a lot of discipline. Always remember, health is an investment. I'm sure you want to look fresh even in your late 40s. You don't have to worry about getting under the knife or getting injections. As long as you start early and get into the right phase, people will immediately notice a difference in your appearance.

I hope this is helpful :) Comments are returned. Good luck and Stay healthy! ^_^

The Hunger Games is On!

I have no idea about what the Hunger Games is all about, not even a single clue. I didn't even know the movie was originated from a book. Since a lot of people have been excited to watch it, I got curious enough to try and watch it today. All I can say is that it's ABSOLUTELY WORTH IT! Now I know why many people are raving about it. The story is unique and action packed. It's not like any other sequel movies where the end part always leaves you hanging. Hunger Games definitely satisfied us today. A lot of girls seem to be excited to watch this because of Liam Hemsworth from the Last Song movie. I don't find him attractive in this movie at all. Sorry ladies! Alexander Ludwig, the blood thirsty competitor, looked a lot cooler though. He reminded me of Channing Tatum. Anyway, I'm not concerned about the boys. The scene reminded me a lot of the forests here in the Philippines. Now I wonder, if indeed this movie is brought to life, will our Filipino natives stand a chance in the competition? That would be really interesting, don't you think? So if you are into Action, Adventure and Sci-Fi movies, this will surely entertain you! I'm looking forward to the next sequel! ^_^

"Every year in the ruins of what was once North America, the nation of Panem forces each of its twelve districts to send a teenage boy and girl to compete in the Hunger Games. Part twisted entertainment, part government intimidation tactic, the Hunger Games are a nationally televised event in which “Tributes” must fight with one another until one survivor remains. Pitted against highly-trained Tributes who have prepared for these Games their entire lives, Katniss is forced to rely upon her sharp instincts as well as the mentorship of drunken former victor Haymitch Abernathy. If she’s ever to return home to District 12, Katniss must make impossible choices in the arena that weigh survival against humanity and life against love." --http://crazycritics.com/page/the-hunger-games-movie-character-posters

Oh. One thing I didn't like about it though wasn't about the movie but the cinema. The place is crowded with so many loud teenagers. What's ironic is that most of these kids are from my school. I thought I was watching a horror movie because I hear viewers shout every now and then. The couples at our back are already telling the story like it's nobody's business. "O sige na teh, ikaw na ang nagbasa ng libro!" It was so annoying! I just had to look back at them and give a stern face. A cinema is like a library, you don't have to open your mouths. You just have to watch. Eeeh. Oh well. That's what you get for watching on the first screening.

Nonetheless, the movie is great! I do recommend to watch it after a week or two if you can't handle restless viewers. For now, you just have to keep your ears shut from spoilers. LOL :P

Makeup Brush Collection with Reviews and Tips

Okay, so before I start with my entry, I would just like to let you all know that these products are bought by yours truly and are in no way, sponsored or anything like that. LOL :) This is my first time to share this online. It's kind of difficult to share something without people judging you for being showy. I just want to share these stuff with you so I can express my thoughts about brushes and the like because I think they're very important in our vanity kit.

Let me introduce my first set of brushes, The Nichido basic set.
I started collecting brushes when I was 19 years old. This was my very first basic brush set. This can be found at all Watsons drug stores. I bought mine at SM Cebu. This is very ideal for beginners in make up and those who don't want to spend so much for brushes. I forgot how much this set costs but I believe it was more or less 150php.

What I love about it:
-It is made of goat's hair. Very soft and silky on skin
-It has minimal shedding! I'm actually surprised for that price
-It doesn't get easily dirty ( because it's animal hair, it doesn't collect as much dirt as synthetic ones )
-You get the Blush/Powder brush, the Eye shadow brush, Brow brush w/ comb and the Lip brush
What I don't love about it:
- Split ends! Really? Yes, it's goat's hair
-I literally have to condition it to avoid drying of ends
-They become frizzy once they start to dry after washing
-I just find the lip brush absurd. Goat's hair on your lips. Ehh.

This is my second set of brushes. The Charm Travel Pro v2
Click here for Iambourgeois's detailed review of the brushes
This is the actual photo of my brushes
The Charm Travel Pro v2 set is intended for those make up enthusiasts who are always on the go. It is a blend of soft animal hair and synthetic hair to have that balance between volume and silkiness of the brush. I decided to get the travel set because it's easier to grab your brushes and fit them into a bag whenever you need them unlike those regular brushes with long handles. They are difficult to store and keep.

The set includes:
1. Dual Fibre Brush
2. Powder Brush
3. Angled Blush Brush
4. Jumbo Concealer Brush
5. Multi-purpose Eyeshadow and Blending Brush
6. Pencil Point Brush
7. Contour Eye/Nose Brush
8. Flat Liner Brush
9. Angled Liner Brush ( for eyebrows and eyeliner )
10. Pointed Eyeliner Brush
11. Brow Spoolie Brush
12. Retractable Lip Brush

What I love about it:
-The compact bag surely does a great job at keeping the brushes in place
-The clear cover keeps the brushes clean and dust free
-Very sleek and you can always carry it around like a purse
-VERY minimal or almost NO shedding! I just love it!
-It doesn't dry out and it doesn't get split ends. lol
-Sleek handles! Plus, they're pink!
-Every brush is useful.

What I don't love about it:
-Since the brushes are still half synthetic, they're not as smooth and silky as animal hair
-I honestly was disappointed by the jumbo concealer brush (in orange hair) It's quite stiff
-It is pricey.  I saved up 1,800php just for this set.

This is by far, the holy grail amongst the brushes! Charm Travel Pro v3
Click here to see Project Vanity's detailed review of the brushes!

The Charm Travel Pro v3 is a blend of soft animal hair and synthetic hair but the new edition promises to deliver softer and silkier feel. This time, you get 14 professional brushes. All these in one sassy black faux croc pouch with hot pink zippers. I bought this last year when I started to work. I feel like the whole concept matured just like me because of the added features and the chic color. I felt the urge to buy this so I would have something to switch with my previous brushes so they can take a rest and have their turn after the new brushes are cleaned. This is perfect for advanced makeup enthusiasts out there!

The set includes:
1. Stippling Brush
2. Powder Brush
3. Foundation Brush
4. Angled Blush Brush

8. Pencil Point Brush
9. Angled Eyeshadow Brush
10. Flat Liner Brush
11. Bent Eyeliner Brush
12. Eyebrow Shading Brush

This is where I store my brushes to keep it protected and dust free

-VERY minimal or NO shedding at all! I don't remember it shed a single hair!
-It's very easy to clean and it doesn't get frizzy
-The ends don't become brittle at all
-Since it's travel size, everything is sleek and ready to keep
-Over all, I love the appearance. It just screams Glam

What I don't love about it:
-The Price. It retails for 2,200php It may be a pain in the ass to save a lot of money for this but I can say it's worth it for advanced makeup enthusiast
-Not applicable for beginners, yet

Meet my most favorite brush, Luxe Flat Top Brush

-It's well protected from dirt and dust because of it's retractable container

What I don't love about it:
-None! I actually was scared that it may be prone to scratches and the pink color may come off because it's metal so I had to tape it to avoid those stuff. It still looks cute though :)

So that's it for my Charm brushes collection. I know they are quite pricey but they are good investments for makeup enthusiasts like me. Overall, I would say that they are all worth the money I saved up for. If you are interested and wish to order as well, you may reach them through online. Just click http://beautyandminerals.multiply.com I also know someone who sells them here in our local city. I bought my Charm Travel Pro v2 and Charm Luxe Retractable Kabuki from here. You can visit her online shop. Just click http://www.facebook.com/makeupmixilicious

So for my last but definitely not the least. Essence of Beauty Duo Brushes
Click here for Confident Beauty's full review of these gorgeous set
This set has three dual-ended brushes to help you complete your look. This is definitely PERFECT for travel! Concealer Brush and Foundation Brush are both made of synthetic fiber. Apply foundation to the center of cheeks and forehead, blending outward for better coverage. Do not apply to eyelids. Blender Brush and Powder brush are made of all animal hair. Apply powder all over to reduce shine and set makeup. Blush Brush and Shadow Brush are made of animal hair.I got lucky. My set came with a bonus brush, the crease brush! I bought it from maam Ched's stall at Robinson's Talisay Cebu for 700php. I thought I didn't need another set of brushes but when I saw the set, I immediately fell in love. It has been traveling with me ever since!!!

What I love about it:
-Definitely soft and smooth on the skin
-NO SHEDDING!!!
-Your best traveling buddy ever!
-Very easy to clean and easy to dry. It doesn't frizz!
-The set does a job well done in distributing the product on face evenly
-I really love the bonus brush! It can be eye shadow and blending brush. You don't need a different one. This brush does all the tricks!

What I don't love about it:
-I find that the Powder brush is smaller. I expected it to be big but it's smaller than the blush brush. It definitely needs a lot of work to get coverage on the average face
-This set comes in a zipped pouch. I don't find it sanitary. I hope this came with a pouch just like the Charm Travel Pro

My tips in choosing your own brushes:
-Consider first your enthusiasm in the art of makeup. If you just want some color on your face, just go for the basic set.
-If you are a beginner in makeup and want to learn advanced techniques, I recommend that you watch tutorials first before you get to decide what are the tools you would need
-For girls who already have the makeup skills and know what they would need, I truly recommend you to invest in good quality brushes that would really last
-Consider your lifestyle. If you are always on the go and always traveling, go for brushes that are easy to carry.
-Always ask the seller what kind of hair is used for the brushes. Remember, animal hairs are more likely to fall off and split while synthetic hairs tend to be stiff. Always test the brushes first or read reviews about them on the net if you're getting a set online
-TAKE YOUR TIME. No matter how cute they are. Think first whether or not you would need it

Okay. That's it for my makeup brushes collection. I know they seem quite too much for a lady like me. I don't often wear makeup but they always make the makeup time extra fun! I feel like I am paint artist. HAHAHA! ^_^
Comments are graciously returned. I hope you had fun reading this and I get to share some ideas in choosing the perfect brushes for you to fit your lifestyle!

Tips and Tricks for Hiding Your Body Flaws

Wooh. I feel like I'm becoming such a girlaloo. It's quite unlikely of me back in college. LOL :P So I thought about getting back to Fashion blogging but since a lot of my fellow Zamboanga Bloggers are already established on that category, I might as well bring something to the table by doing another Tips and Tricks Article because I think that a lot of girls want to be fashionable too but they worry that their body types hinder them from expressing their inner fashion sense.

Just because the trends are brought by skinny models doesn't mean you don't have the right to set your own trends. Remember, they are chosen because they fit the designer's sample size hand made clothing. What I thought of discussing here is about real bodies by real women. This is not about starving yourself to fit the category of model-ish girls but rather concealing your imperfections and enhancing your perfections. ^_^

Wide waist and/or Bulging stomach
The most obvious thing to do here is to avoid fitted tops. I personally have wide waist and slim extremities. My best bet is to buy hip hugging pants or jeans and wear loose Tops like Tunics outside of pants. This style conceals the waist. Avoid short, thin in texture and soft colored tops which bare the mid torso, as they will emphasize your fault.
Important tip: Stick to your size and your body structure. Wearing something too small and too tight will only accentuate the problem and wearing something that is too large for you will only make it obvious that you’re trying to hide something. Instead, stick to a happy medium: your true size!
This creates an illusion of bigger breasts and flat stomach

Add accessories to pull attention away from the trunk.

flared pants and skirts create a balance proportion. Cardigans create slimmer angles.
Tops that flow freely are cute. Accessorize it to make it more lively.

Big breasts
Most Asians with big breasts are either chubby or on the plus size category. I honestly think they shouldn't be covered but rather complemented. Tailored vest is your best friend. Not only will it make you chic but it also minimizes the attention to you breast. Opt for solid colors when it comes to pairing it with inner clothing. Try wearing high cut blouses and accessorize it with a chunk necklace for that balance look. Halters and V-necks may be worn too without drawing attention to the chest by wearing pastel and solid colors. Avoid plunging tops and chunky necklaces that attract the chest area.

Broad shoulders
Usually, girls with broad shoulders have inverted Triangle body shape. Which means, you tend to look like a Hanger. I personally belong to this category. I wouldn't mind if my shoulders are emphasized, as long as I get to balance them with my hips by wearing A-line bottoms and layered skirts. Give them a soft look with V-shaped necks and asymmetrical and embellished pieces. Avoid shoulder pads and puffy sleeves, tubes and plain cardigans.

Tops with embellished shoulder cut the broadness of shoulders.

Thicker straps and wider halters soften the angle of shoulders

Heavy thighs
A lot of girls with heavy thighs wear shorts and ultra fitted pants. These pieces really put everything out of proportion. Same is the case with dresses. Wear skirts with soft gathers and pleats. Avoid wearing high waist shorts, skirts and pants because they bring attention to your lower torso. Choose skirts and pants in a solid color, but wear tops that bring attention upward such as bright colors and prints. When you wear a modest black skirt with a loud, sexy, print shirt, no one will even notice your legs.
Dresses and Tunics with asymmetrical cuts definitely give you the illusion of bigger hips and smaller thighs.

Colorful tops bring the attention upward.

Remember to keep your bottoms simple.

Heavy hips
Heavy hips usually mean Pear shape bodies. The trick is to be able to balance your top and your bottom body. Do not wear fitted blouses and short fitted jackets. Layer the clothing on your top body by wearing long blouse or a banded top then cover with a cardigan.Gently flared hips or wrapped styles conceal large hips. Stay away from shorts and go in for knee length or above the knee culottes with slight flares. The length of the garment is very important for large hips so avoid short skirts and opt for slightly above the knee or knee length cut.

Flat Chest
Whoever told you that girls with flat chests are not women enough must be too shallow. Be happy because you don't have to worry about stretch marks, sagging and increase risk of breast cancer! The best way to make your chest appear fuller is to wear tops that have details on the chest area such as embellishments, ruffles, prints and pockets. Avoid plunging necklines because they draw unwanted attention.

Big and/or Flabby Arms
For girls with big arms, wearing sleeveless tops may be really impossible. For those who really insist, they tend to look like boxers and that creates an imbalance to the whole proportion of the body. My mom is from the plus size type so I learned a lot of tricks from her. I learned that Tops with full sleeves are not boring at all. Try lace sleeves or kimono cover ups for the young vibe. Sleeves that flow freely look gorgeous and appropriate. Cropped tops bring attention to the trunk instead of the arms while asymmetrical pieces bring attention to the shoulders. Avoid the dark cardigans and shawls, they make it obvious that you are hiding something.

 Chicken Legs
The main issue with girls with skinny legs is the gap between their thighs. They tend to be teased with having an elephant crossed their crotch. It can also be disturbing when wearing fitted bottoms and swim suits. So the best way to make chicken legs look healthy and sexy is by wearing bottoms with looser fittings when paired with shorter tops. For those who want to wear fitted pants or leggings, wear longer tops and tunics to cover the crotch. Colorful and printed knee length skirts give the illusion of fuller thighs. Go for pants with loud colors and wild prints. Flare pants and Palazzo bottoms  are so IN this season and they compliment skinny legs better than average ones.
See the wide gap? That is very disturbing.
Knee length skirts are great for skinny legs.
